After The Winters Group helped finance David A. Prior's previous film, Aerobicide, Prior, along with executive producers David Winters and Bruce Lewin, and producer Peter Yuval formed Action International Pictures and their first projects were Mankillers and Deadly Prey.
After the 1972 release of Deep Throat, Linda Lovelace enjoyed a brief flurry of celebrity notoriety while dating David Winters of West Side Story fame, which included appearances at the Academy Awards ceremony with Winters and the opening day of the racing season at Ascot Racecourse plus author credit for two best-selling books that played up on her status as a pornographic icon.
Winters was born to John David Winters, Sr. (1891–1944), and the former Estrella Fancher (1890–1958) in rural McCool in Attala County in central Mississippi.
