He is also the first to pose to music, and was especially noted in performing exhibitions doing an entire posing routine of Eugen Sandow (who is known as the man who invented bodybuilding).
Eugen Sandow, often considered the first modern-day bodybuilder, was an admirer of the human physique, and in addition to strongman sideshows, he performed "muscle displays" by posing in the nude — save for a fig leaf that he would don in imitation of statues he had seen in Italy as a boy.
Among his finest works is his Combat du Centaure, on which he was engaged for thirty years, the figure of the Lapith having been modelled after the strongman, Eugen Sandow.

Born in Holloway in London, the son of George Frederick Woollaston (1828–1896), a shoe manufacturer, Methodist preacher and faith healer, and Adelaide Mary (née Green) (1849–1923), like his older brother Monte, Frank Saldo developed an interest in Physical Culture at a young age and with his brother travelled in the stage act of Eugen Sandow in the late 1890s.
