A descendant of an ancient Welsh family, Sir Richard was a landed gentleman of Buckinghamshire, the son of Sir Geoffrey Pole of Worrell, Cheshire, and of Wythurn in Medmenham, Buckinghamshire (1431 - 1474 / 4 January 1479, interred in Bisham Abbey).

In the park opposite the University, you will find a monument in the shape of a 'W' with busts of each of the famous 3Ws – Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Everton Weekes.
Worrell holds several Saint Lucian swimming records, including the long course 200 m event (with a time of 2:03.10, set in 2004), and the short course 200 m (2:01.63; 2004), 400 m freestyle (4:23.75; 2004), 100 m (1:07.65; 2013) and 200 m breaststroke events (2:36.92; 2013).

Worrell also competed in the 200 m freestyle event at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
On February 8, 2013, the university hosted a formal groundbreaking ceremony at the stadium site featuring longtime Houston Rockets commentator and alumnus Bill Worrell with President Renu Khator, athletics director Mack Rhoades, and chairwoman Nelda Luce Blair.
Following his final season with the Olympiques Worrell began his pro career in 1997 with the Beast of New Haven in the American Hockey League.
Two of them, Corry Worrell and Brandon Pittman, were guests on ESPN2's Cold Pizza on December 5, 2006.
Additionally, Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell (of Parliament-Funkadelic), both also featured on the debut album, return for one lengthy track each: "Deathstar" includes Collins' "free-form bass explorations" and "Crossing" features Worrell's "psychedelic improvisation on a distorted Hammond organ".
